Audio delay finder
Plays an impulse, captures it on the mic, reports round-trip latency — for tuning DSP delay blocks.
Measures the end-to-end delay between an audio output and a mic input. Send a tone burst, capture the mic, and the tool finds the peak of the recording to report the round-trip time in milliseconds. Save a measurement as baseline (mic next to the laptop speaker, signal path bypassed) and subsequent runs subtract it — so you see the actual delay your DSP block is introducing. Median of five shots rejects browser audio-buffer jitter (typically ±2–5 ms per shot) to about ±1 ms repeatability — not absolute accuracy, which is why the baseline step exists. Needs a desktop browser: iOS keeps echo cancellation on and removes the burst. For Q-SYS / Symetrix / BSS DSP work, not for sub-millisecond latency hunts.

- 1 · Start the mic. Allow access when prompted.
- 2 · Place the mic where the sound will reach it. For a baseline reading hold the mic right next to your laptop speaker (or audio interface output) with the DSP path bypassed.
- 3 · Fire one shot or take the median of five. The readout shows the round-trip time — output buffer + playback + air + mic + input buffer.
- 4 · Press save as baseline. Now re-route audio through your DSP and measure again — the readout switches to show the net (measured − baseline). That's the delay your DSP block is adding.
- ▸ Use the click burst for sharp peaks (best in a quiet room); the 1 kHz tone burst has more energy and fares better in noisy spaces.
- ▸ Browser audio chains jitter ±2–5 ms shot-to-shot. Median of 5 is typically repeatable to ±1 ms. That is repeatability, not absolute accuracy — the browser's own buffering is inside every number, which is exactly what the baseline step cancels out.
- ▸ On iPhone / iPad, Safari keeps echo cancellation on and will often erase the burst. Use a laptop or desktop browser for this tool.
- ▸ Audio never leaves your browser — the mic is read into a buffer on this page and nothing is recorded or uploaded.
