Audio-over-IP bandwidth

Dante / AES67 / AVB — channel count + sample rate → network sizing.

All three carry uncompressed PCM audio with similar bandwidth requirements, but their PTP versions, latency characteristics, and switch requirements differ. Pick your protocol, plug in your channel count, get back the link bandwidth and protocol-specific notes.

inputs
bandwidth with 10% protocol overhead
81.1Mbps
raw audio: 73.7 Mbps · per-channel: 1.15 Mbps
link sizing

Barely scratching the link. Likely overspec'd — a slower port would work and free up budget.

DANTE notes
  • Audinate Dante — most common AV-over-IP audio. 64-512 channels per device depending on tier.
  • Clock sync: PTPv1 (or PTPv2 with newer firmware)
  • Typical latency: Default 1 ms, configurable down to 150 µs
link utilization

DANTE over 1 GbE — fill shows how much of the link this stream consumes, color shifts as you approach saturation.

Need this math wired into a real system? We do that for a living.
